Cassette Tape is the New Marker

This reminds me of school and the student concept. I can just imagine being given an assignment based on motif and then coming up with this genius. It is so fitting. Oh, I miss college. Every little bit of it!

Erika Iris Simmons is a St. Louis artist who likes to blend conceptual art with craft making.I think she has pretty much hit the nail on the head here. She willingly extends an invitation to her viewers to send her objects that they find seemingly mundane. It is through these donations she is able to create such works as you see above.

I find in fairly incredible as well as ingenious that she does not choose her own materials. It makes her thinking all that more impressive. I enjoy these pieces for what they are superficially as well as what they actually mean conceptually. It is always a nice play when you can enjoy works from both perspectives. I feel we often get too confused in concept.

These designs are impressive and overall, really fun to look at.

  1. I've seen these! They are so cool and yet a pretty basic concept. Very nice!
